How far is Alex Ovechkin from breaking the NHL goals record with 8 games left this season?

Alex Ovechkin is on the precipice of NHL history.

It's been known for some time that Ovechkin has a legitimate shot at breaking Wayne Gretzky's career goals record should he stay healthy and keep up his blistering scoring pace. Even after suffering a broken leg a few months back, Ovechkin remains on pace to break Gretzky's record that's stood since 1999 by the end of the season.

Entering the 2024-25 season, Ovechkin needed 42 goals to break Gretzky's record of 894 career tallies. After scoring goal No. 891 on April 1, Ovechkin now needs just four (4!) goals to pass Gretzky for the NHL's record. The Capitals have eight games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season after Tuesday's matchup against the Boston Bruins, so time is ticking for this record to fall.

Here is Ovechkin's latest tally with just a few more goals to go before the record!
